Victoria Daly is a region located in the Northern Territory, Australia. It is named after the Daly River, which flows through the region, and was named after Sir Dominick Daly, a former Governor of South Australia.

The local history of Victoria Daly dates back thousands of years, with Indigenous Australians inhabiting the area for over 40,000 years. The region is home to various Aboriginal communities, including the Malak Malak, Ngan’gikurrunggurr, and Wagiman peoples.

The early history of European contact in the region dates back to the mid-19th century when explorers and pastoralists began to venture into the area. In the late 1800s, the construction of the Overland Telegraph Line brought increased contact with the outside world.

In the early 1900s, gold was discovered in the Daly River area, leading to a short-lived gold rush. The small township of Pine Creek, located in the Victoria Daly region, became a hub for gold mining activities. The population of Pine Creek grew rapidly, with many people flocking to the area in search of their fortunes.

During World War II, the Victoria Daly region played a vital role in the defense of Australia. The region was home to several airstrips and military bases, including the Tindal RAAF Base, which remains in operation to this day. Remnants of the war can still be found in the region, with the remains of aircraft and other military equipment scattered throughout the bushland.

Following the end of World War II, the Victoria Daly region experienced a period of growth and development. The construction of the Stuart Highway in the 1950s brought increased accessibility to the area, leading to further development of agriculture and cattle farming. In the years that followed, the region continued to grow and prosper.

Today, the Victoria Daly region is a vibrant and diverse community, with a rich cultural history and a thriving agricultural industry. The area is renowned for its stunning landscapes, including the Daly River, the Litchfield National Park, and the Douglas Daly Hot Springs. Visitors to the region can experience the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of this unique corner of Australia.
